Convert a Citi PDF statement to QIF

Drop your Citi PDF below and get the long-standing interchange format that almost every accounting package can read, which makes it the fallback when nothing else on this list fits. Your statement never leaves your computer.

Drop your statement here

or choose a file — nothing is uploaded

Works with most bank statements containing selectable text. Scanned statements and photographs of paper cannot be read.

What you get

The download is a .qif file with these columns, in this order:

  1. Date
  2. Amount
  3. Payee

Worth knowing. QIF carries dates in the American month-first order — that is part of the format itself, not a setting. Your software reads it correctly; it only looks wrong if you open the file in a text editor.

How to download your Citi statement as a PDF

  1. Sign in to Citi online banking.
  2. Open the account and find statements or documents.
  3. Choose the statement period you need.
  4. Download the PDF — not a print or a screenshot.

Banking apps rename their menus from time to time, so the exact wording may differ slightly. You are looking for the original PDF statement rather than a printout or a screenshot — a printed copy sometimes loses the table structure the converter reads.

How to import it into Quicken and most other accounting software

  1. Open your accounting software and find its import option.
  2. Choose QIF as the file type.
  3. Select the downloaded .qif file and the account it belongs to.
  4. Confirm the import.

Accounting packages move their menus around between releases, so these are written to describe what you are looking for rather than an exact path.

Notes for Citi statements

Citi prints dates American style, month first. The converter reads the whole document before deciding which way round the dates go, so 03/06 is read as 6 March rather than 3 June — but check a few against your PDF, because that decision is the one thing the balance cross-check cannot verify for you. It has not been checked against a real Citi file, so use the free preview and the balance cross-check on the results page before unlocking anything.

Why the conversion happens in your browser

A bank statement lists your income, your address, your spending and your account number. Most converters ask you to upload that to their servers and keep it there. This one reads the file locally instead, so there is no copy of your statement anywhere but your own machine — and nothing that can be breached later.

Common questions

Which software reads QIF?

Quicken and most desktop accounting packages, including Sage — which also has its own page here. It is worth trying when a package has no dedicated import on this list, because QIF support is close to universal.

QIF or CSV — which should I pick?

If your software offers both, CSV is usually easier to check by eye beforehand. QIF is the better choice when the CSV import needs column mapping that your software makes awkward.

Is my Citi statement uploaded to convert it?

No. The PDF is read by JavaScript running in your own browser, and there is no endpoint on this site that can receive it. You can watch your browser's network tab while it converts and see that nothing carrying the file leaves.

How do I know the figures are right before I import them?

Where your Citi statement prints a running balance, every amount is re-checked against it and you are told how many rows that covered. Anything that could not be read safely is listed separately and left out of the file rather than guessed at. Check both before importing into Quicken and most other accounting software.

What does it cost?

One page credit converts one page, and five are free on your first visit. If a statement is longer than your balance covers, the opening pages convert free as a preview so you can see whether it reads your layout before paying. Nothing is charged when a conversion fails.
